چکیده

As advances in digital media technology continue to engage users in myriad ways, a critical question facing researchers of user experience is whether the human mind and body have evolved to meet such technological advancements? We answer this question in our lab by measuring users’ psychophysiological responses (ECG, EEG, EDA, EOG and FEMG) to specific structural features of media interfaces such as interactivity and modality. As users engage interactive media, we measure their real-time physiological responses to careful variations in such stimuli as interactivity levels of news stories, pop-up advertisements, animation, and download speed, and correlate them with psychological responses pertaining to memory and attitudes. New interface features tend to engage the user’s body in interesting new ways (e.g., Nintendo Wii), but they also pose new challenges to psychophysiological measurement (e.g., motion artifacts). We seek to brainstorm ways in which to meet these challenges and design more effective studies.

Psychophysiology of Exclusion, Films 1 Running Head: PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGY OF EXCLUSION, FILMS THE PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSES TO SOCIAL EXCLUSION AND AFFECTIVE FILMS

This research studies the effects of viewing a positive or a negative (violent) film clip on the psychophysiological responses to social exclusion. While previous research has found impressive behavioral overlap between social exclusion and violent media, these two stimuli have not been studied together. Subjects were exposed to either a positive or a negative film prior to being ostracized by ...

Measuring Interaction Experiences: Integration of Multiple Psychophysiological Methods

The research of user experience employs a holistic approach to investigate people’s responses when interacting with information and communication technologies (ICT). This has brought new and fresh ways to improve and optimize the design and use of interactive systems. One of the methods incorporates people’s physiological responses during their interaction with computers and media. Building on ...

Psychophysiological determinants and concomitants of deficient decision making in pathological gamblers.

Psychophysiological responses are considered to be a mediating factor in the development of pathological gambling (PG) and PG has been associated with differential arousal levels during gambling. Yet little is known about the specific psychophysiological responses to wins and losses in PG. This study investigated heart rate (HR) and skin conductance responses (SCRs) during the Iowa Gambling Tas...

The Effect of Repeated Virtual Nicotine Cue Exposure Therapy on the Psychophysiological Responses: A Preliminary Study

OBJECTIVE Smoking related cues may elicit smoking urges and psychophysiological responses in subjects with nicotine dependence. This study aimed to investigate the effect of repeated virtual cue exposure therapy using the surround-screen based projection wall system on the psychophysiological responses in nicotine dependence. METHODS The authors developed 3-dimensional neutral and smoking-rel...

Extensions to Study Electrochemical Interfaces - A Contribution to the Theory of Ions

In the present study an alternative model allows the extension of the Debye-Hückel Theory (DHT) considering time dependence explicitly. From the Electro-Quasistatic approach (EQS) done in earlier studies time dependent potentials are suitable to describe several phenomena especially conducting media as well as the behaviour of charged particles in arbitrary solutions acting as electrolytes. Thi...
